Political History & Views

What is your political history or relevant experience?

I have been a police officer in Greater Manchester for thirty years, twenty two years as a supervisor. I have worked in most of the inner city areas of Manchester. I have worked with politicians of every persuasions most of my working life. The standard and quality of politician has varied but all have had the same goal accountability to the public that they serve. I have been proud to work with them, as we all had the same motivation the safety of the public and accountability to the public.

The police, politicians and ministers on the Isle of Man have a great deal to learn about their duty and accountability to the public they serve.

Are you a member of any organisation which guides or influences your political views or polices?

I am a member of the Liberal Vannin Party. A group of like minded people who have the same core values Openness Honesty Transparency Accountability.

We are a committed party to the values we hold dear.

Those values are the values which will succeed and impress the electorate we serve

What are your main national issues?

  • A government that is honest, open and accountable to the public they serve
  • Our party places this as a number one priority.
  • A revue of the spending by Government over the last five years.
  • Strategic plan for the Island to support long term economic growth. The last one agreed was way back in 1982.
  • Immigration. Implementing a plan of controlled immigration, focusing on the Australian model which is based on a point system.
  • To provide housing for our nation by introducing a new “Protected” housing stock to create nests for people not nests eggs for investors.

What are your main local issues?

  • Strategic development plan for the town within 12 months of coming into office
  • A revue of the Knock Rushen development so that other sites for much needed housing can be identified.
  • An urgent review of car parking to serve the towns needs.
  • The neglect of planning in any form of the towns needs into the 21st century is a terrible indictment on Mr Brown’s
  • Ability as a politician. The proof is visible in the town centre; its neglected appearance is not that of a thriving community.

What do you believe you would bring to government as an MHK?

  • I will bring accountability to government. My training and background in a police service that radically changed from just a service, to a service run on business lines.
  • I am no stranger to modern business planning, strategy, formulating business plans, reviewing and inspecting business and management systems
  • I am aware of the standards of behaviour the public expect from their public servants
  • I am used to and welcome public scrutiny in everything that I do.
  • I have worked with the public with politicians most of my working life.
  • I am no stranger to what can go wrong when the people in authority fail to reach the standards expected of those in public office.
  • That is something the people of the Isle of Man are now discovering.
  • This will continue, until it is confronted.
  •  I hope that you the public recognise this when voting. You are the ones to start that process by rejecting the policies and the huge waste of our public money by incompetent unaccountable politicians and their civil servants.
  • It is best exampled by the suspension of a school crossing warden, a public servant doing what he thought was right, a decision made in the public interest and the safety of his school children.
  • Hundreds of millions of pounds have been squandered by highly paid public servants and their political masters in the last five years. Not one of them have been made to account or taken responsibility. Can this be right?
  • I believe a point we all need to reflect on when we make for the polling stations on the 23rd November 2006.
