Event Information

"My Vision for the Isle of Man' a talk by Steve Rodan SHK

This month's public meeting of Positive Action Group (P A G) will consider politics at a national level.

It is appropriate that one of our most respected senior politicians Steve Rodan, Speaker of the House of Keys, will give a talk entitled "My Vision for the Isle of Man"
Rarely does the general public get chance to hear a local politician speak about the broader issues affecting our nation.
Most people agree that the next few years will be very challenging so P A G feels it important to consider the bigger picture.
Mr Rodan, in his role of Speaker, is well equipped to do this because he represents the Isle of Man in the British Irish Parliamentary Assembly and as such actively has to consider the Island's interaction with our near neighbours.
Many will remember the influential role he played in helping to restore the Reciprocal Health Agreement in 2010 with his rallying call to our negotiating team to go in to health talks 'with all guns firing'
He has chaired numerous parliamentary select committees, including investigations into Immigration, the Steam Packet Company, and the Manx Electricity Authority, as well as economic, planning and constitutional matters.
He has also previously held the government posts of Education Minister and Health and Social Security Minister.
Chair of P A G, Roger Tomlinson comments:
"We are delighted that Speaker Rodan has accepted our invitation to address the Manx public. P A G believes that there is not enough live interaction by our senior politicians with the public via good old fashioned political meetings.

With the General Election only four months away this public meeting will provide an early opportunity for people to get involved in the build up to the Election.
Mr Rodan, as Speaker, is outside Government but there is no doubt that he has been very influential in determining how our parliament operates. He is a politician whose views are well worth hearing, particularly on a strategic level"
