A politician is continuing his campaign to see the Chief Minister directly elected by the public.

Douglas South MHK Bill Malarkey will bring a motion to this month's sitting of Tynwald asking that a referendum be held on whether the people should pick the Chief Minister.

Mr Malarkey also wants the referendum to cover the election of the Legislative Council.

He hopes such a vote could be held on September 29th, the same day the Island goes to the polls for the General Election.

Mr Malarkey has previously moved a private members bill aimed at letting the public chose the Chief Minister, however it failed to gain enough support.
